DescriptionHenry Francis Fisher Texas and German Emigration Company Certificate Signed "Henry F. Fisher." One page, 9.5" x 11", Houston, August 2, 1854, certifying "D. H. Klaener is proprietor of Five shares No. 1218K1222 inclusive in the Joint Stock of the Texas and German Emigration Company." Fisher has signed as "Agent of the German Emigration Company." Very clean paper with smoothed folds. Gently taped to a larger backing for an overall size of 11.5" x 14".
In 1842 and 1843, Fisher, along with Burchard Miller and Joseph Baker, was granted by the Republic of Texas the right to settle 1,000 families and single men from western and northern Europe on three million acres of land between the Colorado and Llano Rivers, known as the Fisher-Miller Land Grant. They failed in the time given to colonize the area, so the deadline was extended and the number of colonists was increased to 6,000. In the end, few colonists settled the area.
