DescriptionGeneral Winfield Scott 1847 Autograph Letter Signed Concerning a Counterfeiting Gang. One page, 5.25" x 5", December 3, 1847. Signed but a few months after his capture of Mexico City during the Mexican American War, Scott sends a letter to an unnamed general directing him to assist a "W. Bellange" who has information regarding a counterfeiting gang. Fine condition and comes with a beautiful carte de visite image of Scott in uniform.
It reads, in part: "Dear General: W. Bellange has a confidential application to make to you in respect to counterfeiters. Have the goodness to give him any military assistance he may need to apprehend & to break up the gang. Yours truly, Winfield Scott".
