Expertly silked on the verso repairing detachment of the folds and several small tears. Some wrinkling of the paper is evident.
When he wrote this, Lee (1734-1797) was a member of the Virginian House of Burgesses, a position he had held since 1765. He was a member of the group of men who called for a general congress and was sent as a Virginia delegate to the first Continental Congress, serving until 1779. While a member of the Congress, Lee signed the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation. He also served in the Virginia Senate from 1778 until 1782.
