Francis Lightfoot Lee Autograph Document Signed. One page, 14.5" x 2", n. p., May 10, 1773. In full: "N.B. Where the [illegible] consign'd falls short of the money advanced, interest should be charged upon the balances from April 1772." Expertly silked on the verso repairing detachment of the folds and several small tears. Some wrinkling of the paper is evident.

When he wrote this, Lee (1734-1797) was a member of the Virginian House of Burgesses, a position he had held since 1765. He was a member of the group of men who called for a general congress and was sent as a Virginia delegate to the first Continental Congress, serving until 1779. While a member of the Congress, Lee signed the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation. He also served in the Virginia Senate from 1778 until 1782.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
