    Edward Rutledge Autograph Letter Signed "Ed: Rutledge." Two pages with integral address leaf, 8" x 9.75", Charleston, August 5, 1791, to Samuel Saxon, "Sheriff for the District of Ninety Six," regarding a recent land purchase. Declaration of Independence signer Edward Rutledge writes, in full: "I find that the Lands at Ninety Six, which were formerly Mr. Salvadores', & which were sold at the Suit of Mr. Bordeaux, were knocked off to me. You will be pleased to make the Conveyances to Mr. Peter Freneau." Rutledge (1749-1800), at twenty-six years old, was the youngest signer of the Declaration and later served as the 39th governor of South Carolina. Countersigned by three other men attesting to and recording the information within. Smoothed folds are weakened with some separation. Minor damage to upper right corner.
