Description

Edward M. Kennedy: Letter Archive. Edward M. Kennedy had a distinguished career in the Senate, despite failed efforts to obtain the Presidential nomination and continue the Kennedy dynasty. This lot contains eleven TLS's from Kennedy to his Aunt Loretta and other family members, written from 1964 to 1976. Two are signed Ted Kennedy, the others simply Ted. There is a form letter dated July 30, 1968 expressing thanks for expressions of sympathy on the death of Robert Kennedy. There are four carbon copies of letters Kennedy sent to his parents while stationed or travelling in Europe, undated and dated 1950 to 1954. There is also a hand-written thank you note from Teddy Kennedy, Jr., a color snapshot of Patrick Joseph Kennedy (Ted's son), and a thank you note from Joan Kennedy. A letter of provenance from the family accompanies the lot.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
