DescriptionDeclaration Signer Thomas Heyward, Jr. Partial Autograph Document Signed Twice. One page, 10.5" x 3.5". Undated, but pre-dates the Revolution. Cut from a legal document written by Heyward: "And the said William Callerton by Thomas Heyward his Attorney comes and defends the force and Injury when and so forth and saith that he ought not to be charged with the Debt aforesaid by means of the writing obligatory aforesaid because he saith that the said Writing Obligatory is not the Deed of him the said William, and of this he parts himself upon the Country and so forth." Signed within the text, he adds a second signature at the conclusion, "Heyward Atty for Deft." The plaintiff's attorney has written and signed an endorsement below. Tipped into a larger sheet so that both sides are visible, to an overall size of 11" x 7.5".
Condition: Gently toned, with flattened vertical folds. Bold ink on bright paper.
