DescriptionDeclaration Signer Stephen Hopkins Autograph Document Signed. One page, 4" x 1.5"; March 24, 1757. A receipt on a small slip: "March 24, 1757. Recd of Jeremiah Knight collector for Cranston One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety Six Pounds, Eight Shillings, part of this order... Step Hopkins." Hopkins was serving as governor of Rhode Island at the time he wrote this receipt. It presents as whole, but was cut from a larger document or ledger as evidenced by copped writing on verso.
Condition: Very gently toned, affixed along top and right margin to heavy stock paper, leaving both sides of sheet visible. Small rust stains from a paper fastener on verso.
