Declaration Signer Elbridge Gerry Document Signed "E. Gerry" with a large paraph beneath his name, as governor of Massachusetts. One page, 15" x 9.25", partly printed, Massachusetts, April 27, 1811. An officer's commission for Ezra Dodge " be Lieutenant of a Company in the Third Regiment of Infantry in the First Brigade, and Second Division of the Militia of this Commonwealth..." Also signed by the state secretary on the front and Lt. Col. Jona H. Lovett on the verso. Gerry signed the Declaration of Independence as well as the Articles of Confederation. He was also our nation's fifth vice-president, serving under James Madison, dying while in office in 1814. This handsome document is in very good condition with a bit of tattering around the edges, the paper seal is present and intact, and the signature is very fine and large.
