    Declaration Signed George Wythe Autograph Endorsement Signed in the third person on the verso of a document. Two pages, York Town, February 2, 1778. In his hand, "Received 25 Aug. 1778, of George Wythe one loan-office certificate for three and one third dollars, payable to Isac Smith, esq; and forty six other loan office certificates, each for three hundred thirty three and one third dollars, payable to James Henry esq." Wythe signed the Declaration of Independence as a representative of Virginia. Thomas Jefferson once said of Wythe (his Law professor): "He was my ancient master, my earliest and best friend, and to him I am indebted for first impressions which have [been] the most salutary on the course of my life."
