Description
Colonial Massachusetts: Reverend Grindall Rawson Autograph Letters (Two) to Thomas Hubbard, speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, asking for church funding, 1752 Both letters are four integral pages written on pages one through three and addressed and endorsed on page four, January 10 and 28, 1752, Ware River [Massachusetts]. Both are professionally inlayed on a larger sheet. Evenly toned, else, fine. Very interesting.More Information:
The Reverend Rawson describes the poverty in the Parish of Ware River and beseeches Speaker Hubbard to have the House of Representatives fund his pastorate. In fact, authorities in Ware River, in reaction to Rawson's strict interpretation of the Bible and his authoritarian demeanor as pastor, denied him his pay and settlement. Rawson's unhappy service at Ware River ended shortly after these letters were written and the church records from his tenure destroyed.
