    Booker T. Washington Typed Letter Signed "Booker T. Washington" with short Autograph Postscript Signed "B. T. W." One page, 5.5" x 9", Tuskeegee, January 26, 1904, on Tuskeege Normal and Industrial Institute letterhead to Edward W. Bok in Philadelphia. Washington writes, in full: "I have read with sincere interest your very kind and cordial letter of January 20th,and thank you very much indeed for the suggestion contained therein. I shall certainly bear in mind, and if a favorable opportunity offers for its use, I shall be glad to put it into operation." He adds in a short, handwritten postscript "We want to see you in Tuskeege some time. B.T.W." Usual folds, contemporary ink smudge at the end of signature, else very fine.

    More Information:

    Edward Bok (1863-1930) was a Dutch-born American editor and Pulitzer Prize-winning author. For three decades Bok edited Ladies Home Journal where he coined the term, "Living Room"-updating the Victorian parlor for the twentieth century. Bok began collecting autographs in his early teens, impressing presidents, generals, and celebrities in numerous fields with his engaging questions.
