DescriptionBenjamin Rush: A Partial Signed Autograph Letter from One of the Scarcer Declaration of Independence Signers. Pages 2 - 3 with signature, written at Philadelphia May 23, 1788. 6.375" x 8".
Rush writes in an effort to clear his good name after an apparent misattribution related to the Jersey College. He asks that their record be corrected, and declares "I have never myself taken one step to transmit my unworthy name to posterity as the friend of learning, but I do not wish it to be transmitted, in your vote for having injured its interests, by a delinquency that may as easily be ascribed to fraud, as to such accidents as no human custom could have foreseen or prevented."
