Alexander J. Dallas Document Signed as Secretary of the Treasury "A. J. Dallas." One page with attached free franked address leaf, 7.75" x 10", [Washington], February 9, 1816, to William Whann, esq., Cashier of the Bank of Columbia. Dallas annexes a resolution "passed by the Senate of the United States, on the 8th instant, and will thank you to furnish me with the necessary information, so far as it relates to your institution, to enable me to comply with it." Dallas signs at the conclusion of the paragraph which is then followed by a statement of the resolution directing the Secretary of the Treasury " ascertain...before the Senate a statement exhibiting the actual condition of the several incorporated banks within the District of Columbia...specifying the actual and authorized amount of their capital stock...". Mild toning to paper, the usual fold creases, and small areas of loss to the address leave, not affecting text, else very good condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
