    Description

    Alexander H. Stephens Autograph Document Signed. One page, 5.25" x 8.25", Augusta, February 23, 1871, regarding payment on land. He writes in part: "I here acknowledge that Louis Troube has this day settled with us in full the field I hold against him. That is we have come to a compromise on it and I have received...an amount One Hundred & Eighteen Dollars and thirty one cents whole I agree to accept and do accept in full discharge of said field..." Docketed on verso. Smoothed folds with some light ink bleeding from docketing. Postage stamp affixed at left.

    More Information: Stephens is best known for serving as vice president for the Confederate States of America. Following the Civil War, Stephens served five months in prison and then, in 1866, was elected to the U.S. Senate where he served until 1882, when he resigned to take the office of governor of Georgia.
