Aaron Burr Autograph Letter Signed with Initials, "AB". One page, 7.75" x 12.75", August 14 [no year], addressed to a Mr. G.W. Lathross, concerning a number of legal cases. In part: "I hear that 500 separate pleas have been delivered in the case of Morton...if so, send one copy together with a copy of the [illegible] & of the sheriffs' returns to [illegible] in a cover with the enclosed letter, post paid. It hasn't ceased to rain since Monday morning, without, pinching cold."

Though a prominent lawyer and later Vice President of the United States, Aaron Burr is best remembered for his duel with Alexander Hamilton, resulting in the death of the latter. After Hamilton's death in July 1804, Burr kept his distance from New York and New Jersey for fear of arrest (the duel occurred in New Jersey but Hamilton died in New York). He conspired with James Wilkinson to establish an independent country in the southwest and was tried for treason. Although acquitted, he fled to Europe for four years before returning to America.

Condition: Lightly toned throughout, with usual mail folds. Small amounts of paper loss around edges, do not affect text. Boldly signed.
