    [William Penn]. Colonial Pennsylvania: David Lloyd Seventeenth-Century Court Document Signed. One page, 8.5" x 13", Philadelphia, July 24, 1687. Headed, "Proceedings of Provincial Court 1687" and concerning "those that refuse to pay their quitrent." The document is signed by Pennsylvania's attorney general, David Lloyd, who was also the personal lawyer of William Penn. Reinforced with silk, with paper added along right margin.

    More Information:

    In part: "At the Provincial Court held by the Kings Authority and in the Name of William Penn Esq: Proprietary & Governor of the Province of Pennsilvania [sic] Territories . . . Being the 3rd year of the Reign of King James the Second . . . and in the 7th Year of the said Proprietary's Governor. . . . For as much as This Court is given to understand that it is the Govern. Will & pleasure That the Provincial Court should take Ord. with those that refuse to pay their quitrent Or do not pay the same when demanded Wherefore this Court taking into their Serious Consideration what may be most proper remedies in that behalf Do by the Kings Authority . . . command all Sheriffs of this Province and Territories (for the time being) in their respective Countys . . . to collect levey and gather all Fee farms Quittrents and arrears thereof due and payable."
