[Texas Indians]. J. M. Henson Autograph Letter Signed. Three and one-quarter pages, 7.75" x 9.75", Atascosa [Texas], June 5, 1856. This warm letter from Henson to his friend "Sammy" reports news from the state of Texas. Henson describes his successful cultivation of new land in Atascosa and reports on Indian activity in the area. In part as written:

"The Indians have got afraid or ashamed of themselves and have lift us quiet. A month or so ago the[y] passed in two or three hundred yards of my camp but didn't call and I didn't have a chance to speak with the[m]. A man living on the Sabine a short time since killed two Indians and wounded a third and a pony at one shot. It was in the night. They had stolen his horses and he after recovering them waylaid them at a trail and made the successful shot."

Letter written on blue paper with embossed seal to upper left corner. Smoothed folds.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
