[Stephen F. Austin] Land Scrip Manuscript Document Signed Two pages, 12.25" x 7.5", March 15, 1830, concerning a land transaction in which "Thomas A. Smith... has for us the undersigned... paid and advanced to a certain Stephen F. Austin, for procuring land in the Mexican State of Coahuila, Texas certain sums of money --" This document records the payment of $40,000 by the "undersigned" William Savage, Hiram Savage, and John M. Savage of Howard County, Missouri, to Thomas A. Smith. The document is signed "William Savage", "Hiram Savage", and "John M. Savage", and three others witnessing. An example of Austin's continued efforts as an empresario. Despite the seemingly large amounts of money that transferred hands, Austin made very little profits from his efforts. A large portion of the monies received were used to pay the Mexican authorities as well as to establish public services and government. Very good condition with usual folds, and tiny holes thereat as well as minor chips at margins.
