Evarts", one page, 5.75" x 10", Washington, June 22, 1878, to Scribners & Co., New York, in this document Evart transmits a letter of commendation on behalf of H. H. Smith, a bright, bold letter, with mounting remnants on the verso, else fine. 2) Charles Devens Autograph Letter Signed as Attorney General of the United States "Chas Devens", one page, 5" x 8", on Department of Justice letterhead, Washington, March 13, 1878, to Thomas Talbot, in this letter Devens considers a recommendation for a judge should a new northern district of Texas position be created, fine condition. 3) George W. McCrary Autograph Letter Signed as Secretary of War "Geo. W. McCrary", one page, 5" x 8", on War Department letterhead, Washington, June 24, 1879, to Captain T. E. Campbell, in this letter the Secretary of War assigns an officer named Gelatt to duty in Washington, a bright, bold letter in fine condition. 4) Richard W. Thompson Document Signed as Secretary of the Navy "R. W. Thompson", one page, 8" x 10", on Navy Department letterhead, Washington, March 14, 1880, to Captain T. L. Breese, Boston Navy Yard, Thompson signs a transmittal document pertaining to the upcoming court martial of two sailors, the document has the usual fold creases and is slightly toned in the folds but is in otherwise very good condition. 5) Alexander Ramsey Document Signed as Secretary of War "Alex. Ramsey", one page, 8" x 10", partially printed, Washington, January 15, 1880, the Secretary signs a summons to appear in a court of claims in a case of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad vs. the U.S., a few short splits in the folds, otherwise very good condition. 6) John Sherman Document Signed as Secretary of the Treasury "John Sherman", one page, 8" x 10", partially printed, Washington, January 26, 1880, a certification document complete with the red seal and ribbon of the Treasury Department, toned and chipped along the edges, otherwise in very good condition. 7) Horace Maynard Autograph Note Signed as Postmaster General "Horace Maynard", one page, 4.25" x 8", Washington, February 15, 1881, to Eugene R. Conklin, the Postmaster General acknowledges receipt of a letter, toned with the usual fold creases with a few short splits in the folds, otherwise good condition. 8) Speaker of the House of Representatives Samuel Jackson Randall Autograph Note Signed " Sam. J. Randall", one page, 5.5" x 8.5", New York, July 10, 1880, to General Hancock, in this short note of introduction Randall commends Lewis C. Cassidy to General [Winfield Scott] Hancock, toned along the edges and with the usual fold creases, otherwise very good condition.
