Description[Richard Nixon]. W. Brennan Signed Opinion on NY Times v. U.S. and U.S. v. The Washington Post, et al. 6" x 9.25", June 30, 1971. The Supreme Court sought to prohibit The New York Times and The Washington Post from publishing classified information concerning "U.S. Decision-Making Process on Viet Nam Policy". The court ruled in favor of the newspapers and was a landmark decision that upheld the First Amendment, allowing both The New York Times and The Washington Post to publish materials (which were then-classified) without fear of retribution from the government. Brennan signs "William J. Brennan Jr." on the lower margin of the front page.
