More Information: John Friedrich Meinhard Ernst (1820-1863) was born in Lower Saxony. His family was among the first German settlers in Texas. He grew up in Austin's Colony. He was a Texas Ranger, justice of the peace, farmer, and member of a Confederate company of light artillery.
