    [John Jay]. New York Joint Elections Committee Document Signed certifying John Jay as New York governor for a second term. Two pages, 7.75" x 12.75", New York City, June 12, 1798, declaring that "John Jay was by the greatest number of votes at the said Election Chosen Governor of this State." The signatures of the twelve members of the joint elections committee of the New York Senate and Assembly occur on page two and include the following: Phineas Bowman, William Pearsall, Henry McNiel, Joshua Dewey, Daniel Mason, Jesse Thompson, Selah Strong, James Gordon, Samuel Haight, Anthony Ten Eyck, Abraham Arndt, and James G. Graham. This official New York state document also certifies the victory of Stephen Van Rensselaer as lieutenant governor, as well as the Senate victories of John Schenk, David Gelston, DeWitt Clinton, William Denning, Richard Hatfield, Ambrose Spencer, Ebenezer Foote, Leonard Gansewoort, John Sanders, Thomas R. Gold, John Frey, Frederick Getman, William Beekman, and Jacob Morris. The text and signature ink are very bold and clear. A second sheet is included, blank except for docketing that reads, "Mr. Banker / Clk of the Senate." Both sheets are toned with minor stains and smoothed folds.
