[John Hancock] Harvard Broadside, 1791. One large page, 18" x 22.75", Cambridge, Massachusetts, July 20, 1791, announcing Harvard University's 1791 commencement headed with the names of Massachusetts' Governor John Hancock and Lieutenant Governor Samuel Adams. Also listed is Harvard president, the Reverend Joseph Willard. Near the top are listed the names of the twenty-seven recipients of Bachelor of Arts degrees. One of the graduates was Nathaniel Cabot Lee, whose great granddaughter Alice Hathaway Lee was Theodore Roosevelt's first wife. In the body of the broadside, the 190 theses are grouped by subject area ("Technologicae," "Grammaticae," "Rhetoricae," "Logicae," etc.). This broadside was printed in Boston by Samuel Hall on laid paper with all text in Latin. Toned with weakness along the smoothed folds. Some have resulted in separations which have been repaired on the verso with clear tape. Minor foxing.
