One page, 4.75" x 8", on Treasury Department letterhead, Washington, March 28, 1881. A letter seeking an appointment with President Garfield on behalf of a former member of Congress from New York. Some chipping to top edges, otherwise fine condition. 2) Wayne MacVeagh Autograph Letter Signed as Attorney General of the United States "Wayne MacVeagh". One page, 5.25" x 8.25", on hotel letterhead, New York, April 1, 1881. Missing small portion of the lower right corner, otherwise excellent condition. 3) William H. Hunt Autograph Letter Signed as Secretary of the Navy "William H. Hunt". One page, 4.75" x 7.75", on Navy Department letterhead, Washington, May 11, 1881. Hunt requests a list of the Board of Examiners to the Naval Academy. With the usual fold creases, else fine. 4) Thomas L. James Autograph Letter Signed as Postmaster General "Thomas L. James". Two pages, 5" x 8", on Office of the Postmaster General letterhead, Washington, August 20, 1881, to General Francis A. Walker of the Department of the Interior's Census Bureau. James requests agricultural statistics on behalf of Senator Warner Miller of New York. With the usual fold creases, otherwise excellent. 5) James G. Blaine Document Signed as Secretary of State "James G. Blaine". Two pages, 8" x 10", Washington, August 22, 1881. Blaine acknowledges receipt of a letter from an individual in the matter of an application for a Brazilian patent. With the usual fold creases and some trivial toning and soiling, else excellent. 6) Samuel J. Kirkwood Autograph Letter Signed as Secretary of the Interior "S. J. Kirkwood". One page, 5" x 8", on Department of the Interior letterhead, Washington, September 3, 1881. Kirkwood declines an invitation. With the usual fold creases, else excellent.
