"Father of Texas" Stephen F. Austin Signature. Stephen F. Austin, one of Texas' forefathers, signs his piece of paper in crisp, dark ink. Austin helped found present-day Texas. He opposed annexation from America before the Texas Revolution. He was defeated for the Presidency of Texas by Sam Houston and died a year later. The slip of paper measures, 3.25" x 1" and is handsomely mounted with green suede and a print of Austin. The entire piece measures, 14" x 17". Courtesy of J. P. Bryan, Houston.
