"Father of Texas" Stephen F. Austin Signature. Stephen F. Austin, one of Texas' forefathers, signs his piece of paper in crisp, dark ink. Austin helped found present-day Texas. He began as a frontier lawyer and obtained permission to settle three hundred families in Texas. He was a very powerful executive and increased the number of people in Texas. He opposed annexation from America before the Texas Revolution. He was defeated for the Presidency of Texas by Sam Houston and died a year later. The slip of paper measures, 3.25" x 1" and is handsomely mounted with green suede and a print of Austin. The entire piece measures, 14" x 17". Courtesy of J. P. Bryan, Houston. Consigned Lot
