Dear Sir, I received the foregoing this day shall attend the meeting if possible. I am Zera Beach..." The reverse has the address of a Major William Judd of Farmington and what appears to be a land survey sketch.

Ethan Allen (1738-1789) came out of retirement in 1786, with the promise of land, to aid settlers in this area of Pennsylvania who, since the 1760s, had bought grants from Connecticut Pennsylvania wanted the settlers to pay them for the same deeds. When they refused, Philadelphia asked Connecticut to revoke the legitimacy of the deeds and, in 1783, Connecticut did. The settlers still refused to pay for the deeds a second time. Allen raised a militia and offered a compromise to avoid a fight. The state agreed and, in March 1787, Pennsylvania passed the Confirming Act that formed the independent county of Wyoming and recognized the land titles. Good condition with edge roughness and fold weakness, one small area of paper missing.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
