Description

[Bill Clinton]. House Managers for the Impeachment of President Clinton Photograph Signed. All thirteen House managers have signed this 14" x 11" photograph [December 19, 1998]: George Gekas (PN), Steve Chabot (OH), Elton Gallegly (CA), Chris Cannon (UT), Ed Bryant (TN), Steve Buyer (IN), Asa Hutchinson (AR), James E. Rogan (CA), Jim Sensenbrenner (WI), Lindsay Graham (SC), Charles Canady (FL), Bob Barr (GA), Bill McCollum (FL), and Committee Chairman Henry Hyde (IL).

Included is a Congressman James Rogan typed letter signed (dated January 20, 1999, on U.S. House stationery) explaining the photograph and circumstances: "In the two blue folders n the table in front of Chairman Hyde are the original Articles of Impeachment that had just been signed by House Speaker Newt Gingrich. The photograph was taken shortly after the House of Representatives voted to approve the articles. Moments after the managers posed for this photograph, they made the historic procession to the chamber of the United States Senate to formally present the original Articles of Impeachment to the Secretary of the Senate, Gary Sisco." Congressman Rogan has included a footnote about Congressman Gallegly who "was not selected to be a House manager. Despite a whispered staff protestation to him over his presence in the photograph, he allegedly refused to step out of the picture." No defects to mention.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
