DescriptionSouth Carolina Nullification Autograph Letter Signed "F. H. McKinnie" of Augusta, Georgia, to attorney Charles H. Shockley of Appling, Georgia, discussing South Carolina nullification and referring to "northern vampires". Three pages, 8" x 10", September 18, 1832, Augusta. The top one-fourth has completely separated at a fold. Small piece missing along right margin of page three. Still, clear, bold writing; good.
McKinnie writes in part: "I do really think that the steps taken by the submission party in the county manifested a meaness of [?] and an utter destitution of every honorable quality. The nullifiers had appointed a day for a meeting. . . . I shall address the meeting on that day and if I do, I shall express my opinions with regard to the actions of these northern vampires freely and fearlessly. It is my present intention to speak if my health shall be sufficiently recovered."
