Simon Bolivar Military Appointment Signed. One page of a partly-printed bifolium, in Spanish, 8.5" x 12", "General Headquarters in Trapiche", May 21, 1822. At top reading, "Republica de Colombia. Simon Bolivar. Libertador Presidente de la Republica." The political and military leader signs in full "Simon Bolivar" adding a paraph. Just days before victory at the Battle of Pichincha, Bolivar promotes Julian Santamaria to the rank of infantry captain. With an endorsement signature by General Bartolome Salom on page two. Age-toned with foxing and separations along the central vertical fold. Some wrinkling and nicks along edges.

    More Information:

At the time, Bolivar was head of what was then known -- albeit briefly -- as Gran Colombia, consisting of present day Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Venezuela, and the northern portions of Peru and Brazil. Bolivar would declare himself dictator the next year and narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. After Venezuela and Ecuador seceded from the "union" in 1830, Bolivar resigned, disillusioned and in poor health.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
