Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette Autograph Letters Signed, Photograph Signed, Autograph Manuscript Signed, and Typed Manuscript Signed.Autograph Letter Signed "Colette Villars." One page (of a bifolium) in French on personal stationary with mourning border, 4.5" x 7", Besançon [France]; n.d [prior to 1906]. Letter in purple ink to an unnamed recipient, in which Colette writes [English translation], in part "It is well done! I have always said, myself, that you la charmante Chatre Noire...I send you both, from far away, a thousand loving kindnesses."
Autograph Letter Signed "Colette." Two pages on blue paper in French, 8.25" x 5.25", n.p.; n.d. A letter to a Mr. and Mrs. Albert, in which Colette writes to her neighbors with thanks that she owes them.
Autograph Letter Signed "Colette." Two pages in blue paper in French, 8.25" x 10.5", n.p.; n.d. In a letter addressed to "Dear friend", Colette displays her anger at a contract from her publisher. She writes in part [English translation], "I received the contract...I could have known earlier, but I am more sensible to the sight than to the ear-it is such a bad offer and so humiliating, it makes my blood go around in circles. I do not believe that even during my beginning any one had dared to offer me such a disadvantageous contract...My God Henry...three years of working and finally blocking out a tight text and then they withhold further advances. What a nerve! Because of that, I will not put a foot in Paris! I quit the business."
Autograph Letter Signed "Colette." Two pages on blue paper in French, 8.25" x 10.5", n.p.; n.d. [after 1925]. In this letter an unnamed correspondence, Colette is asking advice about procuring a new bed and mattress.
Autograph Letter Signed "Colette." Two pages on blue paper in French, 8.25" x 10.5", n.p.; Friday night, n.d. [after 1925]. Colette writes to an unnamed correspondent about their health and mentioning that she and her third and final husband Maurice [Goudeket] have little money.
Photograph Signed "Colette.", 5.5" x 7.5" albumin print on a 9" x 11.5" mount, [circa 1930s], with an inscription to Willy Michel [possibly her first husband Henry Gauthier-Villars (1859-1931), known by his pen name "Willy."] The photograph is surrounded by a group of nine photographs taken in a photographic booth around the same time.
Typed Manuscript Signed "Colette." Six pages (one side) in French, 8.25" x 10.75", January 28-29, 1940. At the top of page 1 is typed [English translation] "RADIO-MONDIAL. One of Colette's lectures to Radio Mondial. Broadcast of the night from Sunday 28 to Monday 29 January 1940...(Mme COLETTE)." This is one a several lectures Colette gave Radio Mondial. This one concerns her views of mondanité or worldliness.
Autograph Manuscript Signed "Colette." Six pages (on one side only) on blue paper in French, [Paris], n.d. Entitled [English translation] "Easter Souvenirs."
Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette or Colette (1873-1954) was a French author and woman of letters, and is best known for her 1944 novella Gigi.
Condition: Letters have the usual folds; otherwise good. Photograph in good condition.
