Description
Sam Houston Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 7.75" x 9.75" (sight), Washington City; February 23, 1852. A brief letter addressed to John "Jack" H. Houston, a cousin of the illustrious Texas general, penned while Houston was serving in the U. S. Senate as a representative from Texas. It reads, in full:"If Mr. Tom Shankland wants an hundred Dollars before my Return, please hand it to him. Your Friend" Boldly signed, "Sam Houston".
Jack Houston was a government employee who lived and worked in Washington, D.C. He served on the Washington City Council from 1855-1857 and worked as a clerk in the Second Comptroller's Office in 1859. The letter remains vividly bold with an especially large signature from Houston. It has been attractively matted and framed to the overall size of 19" x 21.5". Not examined outside of the frame.
Condition: Smoothed folds.
