    Description

    Sam Houston Autograph Letter Signed. Two pages of one leaf, 8" x 10", Independence, April 25, 1854, to James O. Adams, "Secy.," turning down a speaking engagement. The signature - "Sam Houston" - is large and bold with his usual paraph, but both signature and paraph have been outlined with another writing instrument on both sides of the letter. Smoothed folds with some staining, soiling, and tape repairs to a long tear. Mounting remnants are visible along the lower edge of page one. Page one also bears some penciled annotations in the top margin.
