One page, 4.5" x 7", on "Executive Mansion" letterhead, Washington, March 30, 1880, as a letter of introduction to General Edward Noyes, then American Minister to France. Hayes writes, in full: "This will introduce to you W. M. Justice of Philadelphia who is about to visit Europe with his family. He is a gentleman of character, responsibility, and good social standing. I trust you will see him." With original "Executive Mansion" transmittal envelope addressed in Hayes' hand. Folds are weakening and separating at the edge, but with no loss of paper and not affecting the text.
