Robert Walpole Autograph Letter Signed in the Third Person. One page with integral address cover, 6.25" x 7.75", undated. Written in the third person, a letter to a Mr. Adam, possibly the architect William Adam, Grosvenor Street, London, concerning possible renovations or construction projects to his residence.
    Condition: The letter has the usual mail folds with light toning and soiling. The integral cover has small tears where the wax seal has been torn open.

    "Mr Walpole has sent Mr. Dam the two books, & hopes at his leisure he will think of the ceiling & chimney-piece. The Ceiling is to be taken from the plate 165 of St. Pauls, the circular window. The chimney from the shrine of Edward Confessor at Westminster. The Diameter of the room is 22 feet. The inclosed little hint is for the Bed, which Mr. Walpole begs to have drawn out too. He is just going to Bath, and will call on Mr. Dam, as soon as he returns."

    Robert Walpole, 1st Earl of Orford (1676-1745) was a British statesman who served as prime minister of Great Britain (1721-1742) and Chancellor of the Exchequer (1727-1740).

    William Adam (1689-1748), was a Scottish architect, mason, and entrepreneur and the father of Robert Adam (1728-1792), who became one of the foremost architects of the 18th century.
