    Robert E. Lee Signed Expenses Form. One page, 16" x 9.75", Fort Hamilton, New York; September 30, 1844. An "Abstract of Disbursements on account of Battery Hudson during the quarter ending on the 30th of September 1844", totaling $2187.90. The document records purchases of lime cement, masonry and labor, forage, stationery, etc. Signed by Lee, "RE Lee Capt Eng".

    Condition: Flattened folds, with light toning and foxing at the folds and edges. A small separation at the centerfold where paper was weakened by folds. Small tears at edges as well, else good.

    More Information:

    Upon graduating from West point in 1829, Lee was promoted to Captain of Engineers by 1838. In 1840, he was sent to Fort Hamilton, where he aided in upgrading the defenses of the New York harbor. He remained at Fort Hamilton until the outbreak of the Mexican War in 1846.
