DescriptionRobert E Lee Autograph Letter Signed "RE Lee." One page, 4.25" x 5.5" (sight), No place; August 18, 1865. A short letter to a Mr. Lyon, in which he regretfully declines providing an autograph for Lyon's collection. The letter reads in full: "I regret that I have no autographs of distinguished men, to contribute to your collection, as you have requested." After the war, many sought to collect the autographs of famous Civil War generals as souvenirs. Boldly signed by Lee. The letter is matted and framed along with a portrait of Lee to the overall size of 16.75" x 13.25".
Condition: Usual flattened mail folds. Minor soiling at the edges and corners, else very good.
