    Reuben M. Potter Signed Port of Velasco Listing of passengers entering the Republic of Texas. One page,7.75" x 12.5"; Port of Velasco; December 31, 1839. The ledger page lists a total of nine ships arriving from New Orleans, Philadelphia, and New York between October 22 and December 26, 1839. According to the listing, a total of 165 passengers arrived. Reuben Porter signs as deputy collector alongside a blind embossed stamp. Potter originally arrived as an immigrant to Matamoros. During the Texas Revolution his fluent Spanish as well as his established relationships were key in securing amnesty from the Mexican government for 21 Texans captured by Jose de Urrea's forces. In May 1841, he translated Mirabeau Lamar's message to be carried to Santa Fe. From the Robert E. Davis Collection.
    Condition: Gently toned with flattened folds. Left edge is a bit rough, with filing docket on verso.
