Description
Rare And Important Autograph Book Signed By 100's Of Prominent United States Personalities Including Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, Politicians, Suffragettes, Entertainers, And More! Amazing autograph book assembled by James Alexander Semple, the author of "Representative Women of Colorado", published in 1911. Semple was President of the Alexander Publishing Co. in Denver, Co. That book contained information about 500 prominent women who attained social stature in Colorado in the early 20th Century. His next venture was to publish another book "Representative Women of America" dedicated to prominent women of the first quarter of the 20th Century. He sent out questionnaires to prominent women asking for a biographical sketch of each one for the publication. While this process was going on he assembled this autograph book signed by many prominent citizens of the country wishing him luck on his venture. It's basically a "Who's Who" of prominent people. The leather bound book measures 11.5" x 8.5" x 2", and was assembled and given to Helen Loring Grenfell, who was a friend of Semple as well as being a Suffragette and Colorado's Superintendent of public instruction. Included are President's William Howard Taft, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and all four first Ladies. Supreme Court Justices Holmes, Stone, Brandeis, Sanford and Butler. Over 100 Senators and 15 Governors, including Alfred Smith. Other prominent people include Helen Keller, former First Lady Mary Lord Harrison, author Ida Tarbell, Singer Sophie Tucker, artist of the Campbell Soup Kids Grace Drayton (With sketch), artist Georgia O'Keefe, Vice President Charles Dawes, radio stars Amos and Andy, artist Howard Chandler Christy (With sketch), politician Alton Parker and so many more. The book has some soiling to some of the pages, the leather binding has minimal edge wear, overall fine. Certainly ranks as one of the best 20th Century autograph books we have ever had the pleasure to offer. Please see the extended description field on our website for a more detailed list.More Information: Supreme Court Justices
