President Dwight Eisenhower Typed Letter Signed "D. E." on White House stationary marked "PERSONAL". One page, 6.75" x 9", July 7, 1959. To Robert Montgomery concerning comments Eisenhower had made about a controversial American art exhibit in Moscow. Very fine.

    More Information:

In full: "Dear Bob:/ Thank you for your telegram regarding my comments on the furor over the paintings being sent to the Moscow Exhibition. I think you know me well enough to realize that I would never quarrel with the rights of any artist to create or exhibit anything he chooses, or with the public's right to indicate its likes or dislikes. As to the exhibition interpreting the American way of life. . . but perhaps we better discuss that aspect of the matter when next I see you./ With warm regard,/ As ever,/ D. E."
