Description

Picture Frame made by Clyde Barrow in Jail. Clyde Barrow spent time in the McLennan County Jail, Waco, Texas, and Eastham Camp 1, Weldon, Texas. This picture frame was hand made by Clyde Barrow in jail for his sister-in-law, his brother Buck's wife, Blanche Barrow, specifically for this photograph, a 3.5" x 5" photograph of Blanche's father, Matt Fontain Caldwell. The base measures 14" x 4.5" and is 1.25" high. The actual frame measures 5" x 7" and is attached to the overall wooden frame, 8.5" x 10", at its left and right sides.

Caldwell Matt was a logger and a farmer. A devoutly religious man, he occasionally preached as a lay minister, even though he was not ordained. Blanche's parents divorced when she was young and she was raised by her father whom she adored. Blanche met Buck Barrow in 1931; they were married in 1932. They spent several months on the run with Bonnie and Clyde. On July 18, 1933, at the Red Crown Tavern, there was a shootout which resulted in the death of Buck Barrow and the capture of Blanche Barrow. From the Blanche Barrow Estate, accompanied by provenance from the Executor.
