Phineas Taylor Barnum Autograph Letter Signed "P. T. Barnum". One page, 5"x 8", Bridgeport, Connecticut; May 15, 1874. Addressed to Udo Brachvogel Esq., head of the New York Belletristisches Journal and written on Barnum's personalized stationery. The letter reads: "Your kind favor received. Messrs Warren Johnson & Co of Buffalo N.Y. have just published my illustrated autobiography of about 200 pages written up to March 1874. I think that book would afford you all the date you require. W. J. & Co would send you the book, including postage for $1.50 if you write them that I desire it." This letter is matted and framed with the original transmittal envelope as well as a cabinet card photograph of Barnum with a printed signature. The frame measures 18" x 18.75"overall.

Barnum (1810-1891) was America's first great showman who made a fortune in the entertainment business. His circus, "P. T. Barnum's Greatest Show on Earth," through various mergers, become the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus which is still entertaining millions today. His autobiography, entitled Struggles and Triumphs, or, Forty Year' Recollections was published by Warren, Johnson & Co., who would later become The Courier Company. Their publishing company produced all of Barnum's circus posters in 1887, and many of the posters for the Ringling Brothers Circus from 1890 through 1906.

Condition: Letter has usual mail folds, else very good. The envelope has usual wear and soiling.
