    Phineas T. Barnum Cabinet Card Signed with a Stamped Signature. Affixed to a Charles Eisenmann mount measuring 4" x 6.5", the famed showman is featured in a vignetted chest up studio portrait wearing a dark coat, waistcoat, and bowtie, looking slightly to his left. Below his image is found the stamped signature, "P T Barnum," dated 1885.

    Condition: Areas of light toning at the lower edge of the image as well as on the verso of the mount.

    More Information:

    Charles Eisenmann (1855-1927) was a German-born immigrant to New York City in the 1870s, where he operated a photography studio in the Bowery during the 1880s. He is best known for photographing the famous "freaks" of the day dressed in the Victorian style popular at the time and his subjects included Jojo the Dog-Faced Boy, Myrtle Corbin, Ruth Goshen, General Tom Thumb, Eng and Chang Bunker, et al. A number of his images have been catalogued by modern science for their depictions of genetic mutations and abnormalities such as dwarfism, albinism, microcephaly, obesity, and even tattooing.
