Description

Orville Wright Typed Letter Signed "Orville Wright." One page, 7.25" x 10.5", on his personal letterhead, Dayton [Ohio], October 7, 1922. He writes to R. R. Blythe, in part: "Your letter enclosing a clipping of your article in the New York Tribune on sky sailing is received. I understand there are several projects on foot in America to encourage experiments in soaring flight. I am so strongly of the opinion that soaring flight is possible only in ascending trends of air that I do not expect any new type of machine to be developed from experiments along this line. However, this kind of flight does furnish a very good sport, as well as good training to those who engage in it, and for these reasons is to be encouraged." By 1922, Orville Wright had retired from business, but continued to sit on various boards, including the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the precursor to NASA. The letter is attached to a backing sheet which was formerly bound in an album. Smoothed folds and wrinkling from adhesive, the letter is slightly toned, but in fine condition. On the verso is attached an official U. S. Navy, black and white photograph, 8.5" x 6.5", of Lt. W. L. Richardson, H. A. Bruno, pilot Richard R. Blythe, and journalist E. Y. Watson. Richard R. "Dick" Blythe was a pilot and, later, chairman of the Aeronautics Executives Association. He and Harry Bruno owned a public relations firm, Bruno and Blythe, which promoted Charles Lindbergh's historic flight. From the Richard Blythe Aviation Collection.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
