Oliver Wolcott and John Lawrence: Signed Continental Army Documents. 1) 8.25" x 3.5" State of Connecticut treasury warrant or promissory note dated June 1, 1782 and signed by John Lawrence as Treasurer. The holder of the note was Jonathan Cady who served in the Continental Army. He collected interest on this note until 1789, as evidenced by numerous endorsements on the verso. Circular cancellation with loss on the left edge. 2) 7" x 6" State of Connecticut treasury warrant dated January 15, 1783, signed by Oliver Wolcott, authorizing payment of forty pounds nine shillings to Lt. Hezekiah Hubbard "for Service in the Continental Army in the Year 1781." This amount seems to have been his entire salary for the year which, contrary to today, was not paid in installments, but in one lump sum.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
