    More Information:

Ole Bornemann Bull (1810-1880), admired by Robert Schumann and friend of Franz Liszt, was a famous Norwegian violinist who visited the U.S. several times. This advertisement lists the full program for his Omaha visit and includes Giuseppe Tartini's "The Devil's Trill", along with the printed story about the origins of the difficult sonata: Tartini had a dream that he met the devil who played a "singularly beautiful" piece which "surpassed all the music he ever heard in his life!" When Tartini awoke, he tried to replicate the devil's music, but was only able to compose a shadow of the piece, which he named "The Devil's Trill".

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
