DescriptionNorman Rockwell Artist's Proof of his "Portrait of John F. Kennedy" Signed by the Artist. In 1960, The Saturday Evening Post commissioned artist Norman Rockwell to paint a portrait presidential candidate John F. Kennedy (and his opponent in the race, Vice President Richard M. Nixon). The portrait graced the cover of the October 29, 1960, edition. This artist's proof, measuring 13.75" x 19.25" (sight) and numbered three of thirty-five, is signed by the artist in pencil at lower right. The entire piece is matted and framed to an overall size of 20.75" x 26.25". Sadly, this very image would be featured on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post a second time, this time bordered in black in mourning for the slain president, on December 14, 1963. Fine.
