    Description

    William III, King of England, Document Signed "William R." One page, 8.75" x 14", "our camp at Gemblours," July 9, 1696. Countersigned by Sidney Godolphin, 1st Baron Godolphin, Lord High Treasurer; Charles Montague, Chancellor of the Exchequer; and Sir Thomas Littleton. The document is a warrant for paying Charles Godfrey, Esq. £1500 arrear of a rent charge of £10,000 per annum issuing from the Manor and Demesne Lands of Newcastle in Ireland and payable to him, in right of his wife.

    Arabella Churchill, sister of John, Duke of Marlborough, was the mistress of King James II, and by him, the mother of James, Duke of Berwick, and two other children. Having been abandoned by the king, she married Colonel Charles Godfrey, Master of the Jewel Office.
