    Simon Bolivar Document Signed. two pages, 8.25" x 12", Bogotá, Columbia, 1829. The document written in Spanish reads: "Simon Bolivar Liberator president of the Republic, etc., etc., In reference to the merit and service of the...first aspirant Jose G. Salon I have come to promote him to... first of the third company of the battalion Hunters of the West. Therefore I order to the chief who is concerned the...possession of the related job of first lieutenant of company. To apply and make him obey the laws, honors, and privileges that he is entitled to; and that he is being authorized in the corresponding treasury offices, so he can receive his salary with the terms set by law. Given, signed by my hand, stamped with the seal of the State, and endorsed by the secretary of state of the office of the war, in the government palace, in Bogota twenty four of May...of independence." On the verso, which is also signed by Bolivar, reads: "Do what the SE orders you in It was taken...from the book...letters and...of the 1st Brigade Bogota 28 March of 1829 19th century...For...reason in the book superior to...It was taken from this office.

    The national hero of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, born in Caracas. Having traveled in Europe, he played the most prominent part in the wars of independence in South America. In 1821, he proclaimed and became President of the vast Republic of Colombia, which was finally liberated in 1822. He then took charge of the last campaigns of independence in Peru (1824). In 1826 he faced growing political dissension. He resigned office in 1830, and died on his way to exile. . Attractive embossed seal attached. Fine condition; light water staining.
