Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough Letter Signed "S Marlborough" to Her Lawyer, with Period Book. One and one-eighth page with integral address leaf, 6" x 7.25", May 16, 1739, n.p., to Mr. Waller at Lincoln's Inn Fields. She covers a number of items of apparently routine business in this letter, mentioning Mr. Coker, Mr. Hughes, and Mr. Stephens. With a book: An Account of the Conduct of the Dowager Duchess of Marlborough (London: James Bettenham, 1742), in original half leather binding. Sarah Churchill (1660-1744) was an intimate friend of Queen Anne; they referred to each other as Mrs. Freeman and Mrs. Morley, pet names invented in their youths together. Sarah was essentially the Queen's business manager. Among her descendants are Winston Churchill and Princess Diana.

    Condition: Letter is heavily toned and tattered at the top. Book's front board is detached.
